Great post! Very Funny! Great Humour!
Not sure if it is great communication though!
OR if it is, it is a very niche form of communication and one that is probably over-represented in the communication patterns of many (myself included).
Great communication is about listening and this was not in the Rhod repertoire. ‘Is that your place with the caravan and the satellite dish….’
Having a great, well crafted, apparently spontaneous pitch is a great asset for managers, entrepreneurs, comedians etc. However being able to listen and respond, in the moment, driven by values, insights, compassion, belief and respect is FOR ME what characterises great communication.
For that you have to be able to respond, to leave the script, to improvise, to be open to new ideas and words that would not have been in your head at the start of the conversation.
Congratulations on the new blog and I hope the gig with Steve McDermott goes well. I have been watching, reading and listening to Steve for many years now and he always amuses (laugh out loud style)and educates.
I was careful to say “A great example of a communicator being himself ”
Not necessarily good communication – my point was i see a lot of leaders who try to be someone else or read out of management books – i guess “finding your style and finding your voice might have been a better description – keep up the good work Mike
